Your Deck Post Project Starts with Planning and Fast 2KTM
So you’re finally ready to build that deck. Congratulations! Sure, it’s an ambitious project, but we know you can do it! And Fast 2KTM is a faster and easier approach to setting deck posts without concrete. Fast 2K allows you to set a deck post in less time by using expanding foam for footings. No more lifting heavy cement bags. No more dusty mixing. Simply mix the 2-pound, two-part bag together and pour. Fast 2K sets up fast – in less than 15 minutes. And it totally cures in 2 hours, so no more waiting for cement to dry. You can get on with constructing the rest of your deck.
Let’s review the steps for your deck post project:
- Obtain Permits and Approvals: Contact your local government and homeowners association. And don’t forget to call the utility company so it can mark underground lines.
- Prepare the Area: Measure and mark your total area, your corner and support posts. You’ll need additional posts if putting in a gate or stairs. If underlying with landscape fabric, cut post hole openings.
- Dig the Post Holes: You can use a hand auger but renting a power auger from your local hardware store sure is easier! The bottom of the post must be below the frost line by 6”. (This prevents heaving during a freeze.)
- Set and Brace the Post. Check that the post is level and plumb. Brace the post to keep it in place.
- Prepare the Fast 2KTM Deck Post Anchor: Pop the seal and mix the two sides of the bag for 30 seconds. Run the bag along the edge of a step stool or sawhorse to thoroughly mix the components. (Kind of like shining shoes!)
- Fill the Hole: Cut a corner of the bag and immediately pour into the hole, first wetting the posts and then filling in evenly around the post. Then roll the bag to completely empty its contents.
- Monitor: Watch as the foam expands around the post and to the top of the hole. Be certain the post does not move.
- Allow Proper Curing Time. In 15-20 minutes, Fast 2K will be hard enough that you can rake dirt over it. In 2 hours, Fast 2K will be totally cured.
- Trim: Cut off any excess foam at ground level with a utility knife. Backfill any dirt or gravel around the newly set post. It’s ready to go.
